1 December 2019 – First Sunday in Advent

Today is the first Sunday in Advent, the time leading up to our celebration of the birth of Christ. One of our youngsters was a little confused asserting that Christ was already with us, which is true, but our reason for celebrating is that it gives us an opportunity to keep seeking for him as we hear the familiar stories, and remind ourselves that he will come again! Hurry, the Lord is near!

An Advent diorama is unfolding in the church and each week a new scene will be presented. This Sunday finds Mary and Joseph taking a much needed break at an oasis on their 151 km long journey from Nazareth to Bethlehem. The figures were painted by some of the older children from our Sunday groups.

Our Christmas Tree has been placed at the front of the church. It is symbolic of an everlasting life with God,

After the service some of the congregation remained in the sanctuary to take communion. It is hoped that this will be a regular event on the first Sunday of the month where there isn’t a full communion service.

Next Sunday (8th December) is the Sunday School’s Gift Service when the boys and girls will donate a new toy or gift to children in the community who otherwise may have a poor Christmas. Please support our Sunday School by donating a gift of your own. (New items, wrapped, with a label indicating suitability for a particular age group)

Today was the congregational Christmas lunch when we shared in a feast prepared by Angela and her elves. The photographs are taken during the time between the main course and the sumptuous dessert.
