Prepare the Way of the Lord

Today is the third Sunday in Advent. The meditation today thought about the telling of the nativity story, which only appears in the gospels of Matthew and Luke. Perhaps Mark wanted to get to the story of the adult Jesus rather than the miracle of his birth. John was a deep thinker and returns to the very beginning of time when Jesus already was, although not yet as a man living among us. John 1: 1-18 and is possibly one of the most important passages in the Bible telling us who Jesus was and is.

The Sunday School children had been making Christingles and brought them into the church for us all to see and hear the symbolism of their creations.

The orange represents the world; the ribbon represents both God’s arms wrapped around the world while the colour red reminds us of Christ’s blood which was shed for us. The four sweets or fruits, the four seasons and finally the candle reminding us that Jesus Christ is the light of the world.

The children then lit three of the candles on the Advent Crown. We now have hope, peace and love. Finally they looked at the new scene of the diorama. This time the shepherds just as the angel appeared to them to tell them of the Good News.

NOTICES: Next Sunday is a family service and we will all be involved in the story of the Nativity. Members are encouraged to bring in their own nativity scenes.
